BURSTS directly aligns with the National Curriculum for PE at Key Stage 1 as it focuses on the development of children’s Fundamental Movement Skills (agility, balance, and coordination) through a mix of competitive (against self and others) and cooperative challenges and games. Its gamified nature means different levels of ability are catered for through the provision of increasingly challenging situations which children can unlock as their confidence and competence grow. The rewards and celebration milestones within BURSTS enable us to celebrate activity progress and achievement for EVERY child.
FAQs
How does BURSTS support real PE?
At the heart of both real PE and BURSTS is the vision to support the development of positive relationships with physical activity for life for EVERY child.
BURSTS is a home Physical Education app that empowers children to continue the development of the National Curriculum aims through gamified and personalised challenge, aligning to the intent of real PE.
The progressive challenges in BURSTS align directly to the Fundamental Movement Skills development sections within all core real PE lessons, with the reward games providing opportunities for children to reinforce and apply these skills.
The XP points and rewards children receive through the app align to the multi-abilities within real PE. Brave (personal), Wise (cognitive), Helpful (social) and Imaginative (creative) behaviours are all recognised through the child’s engagement with the app.
At a school level, a BURSTS dashboard will appear on your real PE platform, providing progress and achievements data at a child, class and school level, giving you insights that can support and inform the implementation of real PE.
Can I use BURSTS for all the children at my school?
BURSTS is currently designed for children aged 4-7 years. You can set up all children in your school who fall within this age group.
Do you have a product like this for children above age 7?
We have started by developing BURSTS for children aged 4-7 years. At this stage we do not have a version for children aged above 7 years, but this may be something we will consider in the future. You will be the first to know! If you are looking for curriculum support, real PE does support all primary school aged children.
We can understand your excitement to get going immediately with BURSTS. Please subscribe to BURSTS now as a non-member and then if you join real PE as a member, your membership fee will be adjusted accordingly to reduce it by the difference between member and non-member BURSTS price. Your renewal subscription price will reflect your real PE membership status at the time.
What technology do I need to support the BURSTS App?
The BURSTS app works on smart phones and tablets.
When will I have access to the BURSTS app?
BURSTS will be available to use from 2nd January 2023 and your nominated admin person will receive an email explaining how to set the platform up for teachers and children.
I have not received an email to explain how to set up my teachers and children.
Please allow 1 hour for your email to arrive.
Please check your ‘other’ and ‘junk’ mailboxes.
To ensure that emails about BURSTS reach your primary inbox please add bursts@createdevelopment.co.uk to your safe email sender list. Instructions on how to do this vary by email service provider so please consult your email help function for instructions on how to do this.
This email will go to your nominated admin contact so please check your account to ensure this is the correct person.
If you have checked all of the above and can still not find the email, please contact bursts@createdevelopment.co.uk
What is the difference between an admin contact and a teacher who uses BURSTS?
The admin contact is the person who sets up and arranges payment for the subscription of BURSTS. They will be the contact that is reminded when the annual subscription is due for renewal. In some schools that person will be different from the teacher (s) who is using BURSTS with their classes. The nominated admin person will be able to set up teachers with access to the platform.
Is my username and password the same as for real PE?
Unfortunately, not currently. You will have a separate username and password for BURSTS.
My school does not come up in the school’s’ list?
Our list depends on data published by DfE. It should include the vast majority of schools. If you are an international school or are not included on the DfE list for any reason please get in touch via bursts@createdevelopment.co.uk with your school name, full address, contact name, phone number and email address and we will set you up so that you can subscribe to BURSTS.
What is the difference between an organisation and a school in the subscription process?
The school process is for individual schools. The organisation process is for organisations such as Multi Academy Trusts or Partners who are subscribing and paying on behalf of more than one school at a time.
How long will it take to set up my classes for BURSTS?
BURSTS will be integrated with Wonde, a data management solution that your school is likely to already be familiar with. This will make set up much easier and quicker and will ensure that any changes to data in your school MIS system will be reflected in BURSTS, removing any need for you to manually update BURSTS.
How do families get access to the BURSTS APP?
BURSTS can be found on both the Apple App store and Android store. In the set up process for schools there is a facility to send families an email or to send them a letter with an access code. Families then download the app and then enter the unique access code for free access.
Why is there an administration fee for paying by invoice?
Paying by credit card happens automatically and requires no manual input from our team. Some schools need the facility to pay by invoice, but this requires more input from our team, so we charge a small fee to cover the costs of this.
Why has my school been charged a different price to the school down the road?
Some schools are real PE members and they receive a discounted price for BURSTS (and other products) as a membership benefit. You can find out more about real PE here.
Why don’t I receive a discount for subscribing to BURSTS for multiple schools?
The threshold for a multiple purchase discount is 20 schools. These large purchasers do receive a discount to reflect the reduced administration costs of large purchases. BURSTS is already priced to get as many schools as possible involved and provides excellent value for money.
What happens at the end of the school year, do I have to start again?
No, you do not need to start again, you will have the facility to move classes up and retain all of their progress that has been achieved so far.

Let’s create a new culture where EVERY child has the confidence and skills to enjoy and progress in PE, Sport and physical activity.
